Studio Newborn Sessions & Photographing Young Siblings
Newborn sessions in the studio are such a special experience—intimate, calm, and filled with love. When families bring in their newest addition, I always take care to create a relaxed environment, especially when young siblings are involved.
My approach to sibling and family portraits during a newborn session is flexible to accommodate everyone’s needs. I typically suggest beginning or ending the session with family and sibling photos. If we start with them, one parent can leave with the sibling afterward, allowing them to avoid sitting through the full two-hour newborn session. This helps keep the experience stress-free for young children who may have a hard time sitting still for long periods.
If we opt to end with sibling and family portraits, sometimes mom and baby arrive at the studio first for the newborn portion of the session. Then, dad and the sibling(s) join for the last hour, keeping everyone fresh and engaged for the important family shots.
Siblings are, of course, always welcome to stay throughout the session, but I completely understand that long stretches of time can be difficult for little ones. My goal is always to create a smooth, enjoyable experience for the entire family while capturing these precious moments in a way that feels natural and stress-free.
Every family is unique, and I love working with each one to ensure their newborn session is not only beautiful but also a joyful memory to look back on.
